essence is owned and operated by Meg, Certified Aromatologist, Aromatherapist, Sound Healer, member of
NAHA, the Natural Perfumers Guild and the Sound Healer Association. Meg studied Aromatherapy in Midi,
Poissey, and Paris, France. She later recieved her certification through the Australasian College of Health and
Science.

essence began as Pyramid, Ltd in New York City and has been in buisiness for over 30 years.

Meg is commited to the art and science of true aromatherapy. The essence experience brings you custom
blended therapeutic formulas as well as Artisan Signature par fume' essences, hand poured and created for
the individual.

Meg also combines her knowledge of oils, sound healing and energy work for a one-of-a-kind Chakra Balance
experience.

A personal message from Meg:

"I have been in business for over 30 years. I now live and work in Sioux City, Iowa and was born and
raised in New York.

Essence Aromatherapy is an amazing evolution. A journey that first reflected the lives of its original
creators.

Pyramid Ltd., as it was first named, was created by British stylist, Alex Levene. In 1979 Alex and I met,
were married and soon were riding high on the New Wave of the 80’s. It was a decade of fashion,
fabulousness, decadence and debauchery. We created the downtown 80’s scene in New York and that
scene created us. We were the music, the hair, the make-up, the lifestyle, and the fashion. Our friends
were our clients, our clients became our friends.

We enjoyed our work with many wonderfully creative people like, Iggy Pop, Madonna, Daisy,
Mark Almond, Keith Herring, Julie Newmar, Joey Ramone, and others; as well as all the other
neighborhood clientele of dancers, artists, actors, indy film producers, writers , poets, and families.
It was all a part of a Spiritual Experience. We were learning so much and along the way.

I continued my studies with Energy work and Aromatherapy in Paris and Midi, France. We infused
Holistic and Alternative Wellness into our lifestyles. This was a blessing, because soon the 80’s came
to a screeching halt. Tragedy was hitting home – hard, with AIDS, heroin addiction, and so many
deaths.

We were all so young to experience so much loss in our lives. I still miss so many of you who’ve gone
before us. As if that were not enough, the Koch and Dinkins administrations changed the whole of the
lower east side, NYC and The Village forever.

By then Pyramid was breaking up, and we all went our separate ways – to die or save our lives. I ended
up becoming part of the “gentrification” of the lower east side. That led to my being homeless in
Tompkins Square Park which ended with the police riots.

Again, all part of the Spiritual Experience.

My vocation began at a very young age. Around many living things, not just people, I could see, smell and
hear color. As a child I became friends with a nun, Sister Mary Josephine on Long Island, N.Y. She was the
first to say that I shouldn’t be afraid, that what I was “seeing” could be a gift from God. She then put me
on the path to learning all about the CHAKRAS, and suddenly things made sense.

Essence has evolved into a balanced practice. I offer educational workshops on Aromatherapy, Chakra
Balancing, and Sound Healing with tuning forks. I take appointments for Chakra Balancing Sessions. I
custom blend therapeutic formulas, create signature scents, and offer retail sales of therapeutic grade
Essential Oils and accessories.
